Land policy and legislation have been the major factors driving fragmentation of Australian rangelands. At the regional scale, fragmentation of rangelands has facilitated the development of private land rights, promoted the development and intensification of the pastoral industry, and encouraged settlement and growth of rural communities. But these changes have also had negative consequences in disrupting ecosystem functions associated with spatial connectedness, compromising enterprise economics and putting pressure on rangeland resources. ...
